Urbanisation and Transformation of Rural Environment in Madhya Pradesh Urbanisation has been playing an important role in the transformation of social, economic and natural environment of rural areas. The influence of cities on rural areas gradually extends according to the role they play, depending on the size of the city and the pace of its growth. This book attempts to analyse the impact of urbanisation on the transformation of rural areas in India, with special focus on Jabalpur region of Madhya Pradesh. Identifying the dimensions of rural environment being transformed due to urbanisation, it examines the role of industrialization and modernization in the socio-economic transformation of rural areas. It also addresses the environmental problems causing land, water and air pollution, and its effect on public health.
Santosh Shukla was Director, Dean, School of Applied Sciences, and Member of the Academic Council Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar. He was the Head, department of General and Applied Geography. He was the Director of Population Research Centre and Director, Institute of Distance Education. He has numerous papers and eight books to his credit. He has also participated in over 50 seminars, conference, workshops and delivered over 200 lectures in UGC Academic Staff Colleges run by various universities. 23 Ph.D. and M.Phil scholars have successfully completed their research work under the able guidance of Dr. Santoh Shukla.
